Turkey Shoot IROC Racing

As a long day of intense racing was just beginning the first race of the day was called to the starting line. This was the International Race of Champions race number 1 of 2. The drivers qualifying for the IROC races were Gary Cleverley, Garry Haworth, Rick Jocham, Brian Lowe, Gary Morgan, Mark Shafer and Milt Surratt. Then the drivers received their starting lane assignments and were given 25 minutes to practice before the start of the first race.

When the green flag fell we saw Brian Lowe and Rick Jocham tied for first place and Gary Morgan one lap down in third place.

After the second heat Rick Jocham had taken the lead one lap ahead of Mark Shafer in second and Milt Surratt in third place.

After the third heat Milt Surratt had jumped out into first place, Rick Jocham dropping down to second place and Garry Haworth moving into third place.

When the fourth heat was over Rick Jocham had taken over the first position Brian Lowe moved back into the second spot and Milt Surratt had given up two positions and was in third place.

After heat number five Rick Jocham was still in first place, Milt Surratt moved into second place and Garry Haworth took over the third position.

When the race came to the end we saw Gary Morgan in seventh place, Mark Shafer in sixth place, Gary Cleverley in fifth place, Rick Jocham in fourth place, Brian Lowe in third place, Milt Surratt in second place and Garry Haworth storming past two racers to take the checkered flag and first place by the mire margin of six feet.

After a 25 minute practice period the IROC racers lined up for the second IROC race.

IROC Race #2

When the first heat was over Mark Shafer was in first place, Rick Jocham was in the second position and Garry Haworth was in third place.

After the second heat Rick Jocham was in first place, Milt Surratt was in second place and Mark Shafer dropped to third Place.

When the third heat was over Rick Jocham was still in the first position, Milt Surratt was still in the second position and Mark Shafer was still in the third position.

After the fourth heat Rick Jocham was in first place, Mark Shafer was in second place and Garry Haworth had moved into the third position.

When heat number five was over we saw Rick Jocham was still in first place Milt Surratt moved back into second and Mark Shafer moved back into third place.

When the checkered flag had fell we had Gary Cleverley in seventh place, Gary Morgan was in the sixth position, Mark Shafer fell back to fifth place, Brian Lowe moved up to the fourth place position, Garry Haworth moved up to the third position, Milt Surratt was in second place and Rick Jocham took first place in the number 2 IROC race.

After carefully calculating for a over all IROC Champion, it came down to who turned the fastest lap in both races. Garry Haworth was awarded the honor of International Race of Champions, Championship Points winner with the fastest lap time of 2.999.
