Spring Series Race #2

Hosted by: Haywire Raceway

BBQ Feasting the Haywire Raceway
Haywire donned the chef’s apron once again and grilled up a spread that left everyone gasping for the next burp! In addition to a racer’s fare of burgers, coleslaw, and potato salad with all the trimmin’s and fixin’s, Haywire’s house specialty sesame seed marinated chicken draw raves from discriminating taste testers. And what beats a Haywire BBQ lunch? A Haywire BBQ dinner!

Revelation!
Despite a light turnout due to the long trek to Simi Valley for some and interference from cross-town traffic for others, the Speed Merchants racing action itself couldn’t have been better. The Modified race was decided by two laps. The R/O race difference was one lap. And the Neo race runner-up was on the same lap as the winner. What was the revelation? We don’t need no steenkin’ turn marshals!

When you marshal your own car the old adage prevails: Dog bites man. First time dog’s fault, second time man’s fault. As the old Henny Youngman joke goes: "Doctor, it hurts when I do that." - "Well then don’t do that!"

Post race analysis showed lap totals all within reach of Haywire Raceway track records. The consensus was that since the lap penalty risk for de-slotting is magnified, not having the luxury of turn marshals (to which everyone is accustomed) WILL make you a better driver whenever the situation arises.

There was one more revelation. We don’t need no steenkin’ lane stickers either!

Hot Stock Arms Are Hawt!
Speed Merchants
General Rule #7 has been revised for clarification: "Only narrow gap, folded tab Mabuchi armatures are allowed." "Folded tab" refers to the original state of manufacture and is intended to preclude dewinding or rewinding. Commercially available Hot Stock arms from Wizzard and BSRT have stock folded tabs. What about grinding the stacks? Commercially available Hot Stock arms from Wizzard and BSRT do not have ground stacks.

Come and race you fool!!  Now That’s Progress!

The Progressive Enduro scheduled for Saturday April 1 (no April Fool!) at Ruiz Raceway is a special non-points event for Speed Merchants members. Driving assignments are left to the individual team members for maximum scheduling convenience and personal comfort. Get your two man team reservations in to Tony Ruiz today!

An Enduro you say? They’re boring! Well, rather than use gimmicks like dark racing to keep things interesting, the Progressive Enduro winner must excel in three different sprint races to win overall. The staggered class heat lengths reduce the chance that a team will back in by doing well in only one class. And lest we forget, each Speed Merchants class is "progressively" faster than the last!

The Personal Touch
Speed Merchants membership also includes a personalized plastic laminated Lane Change Card that is business card sized for ease of use.
