JK PORTABLE TRACK TAKEN TO EIGHT LOCATIONS
SLOT CARS GET BOOST WITH
PRIMO PROMOTION
Everyone in the world by now knows Mr. Jerry "What you can do for me today?" Kulich not only owns, operates and innovates his own line of JK Products, but Raceworld in McHenry, Illinois as well. He sent along the following letter with some very nice photographs. Jerry writes: "During July and in conjunction with the Target Grand Prix, ABC Radio and Raceworld in McHenry, provided the slotcar race track and personnel for eight appearances in the Chicago area. Appearing with Raceworld were radio stations CD 94.7, WLS, ESPN and Radio DISNEY. There were also representatives from AAA, Coppertone, and the Chicago Motor Speedway. Our special thanks to Eileen Byrnes from radio station WLS. She announced the races. Also, thanks to the "G-Man" from Radio DISNEY. Prizes for race winners included tickets to attend the Target Grand Prix time trials. The winner with the most laps each day qualified for the Championship Race held following Saturday’s Time Trials. The winner of the Championship Finals received two tickets to the Belgium Grand Prix! On July 21st Raceworld set up the track at the ESPNZONE in downtown Chicago. Harry and Spike from ESPN Radio announced the races. Wednesday July 26th saw Raceworld’s track in front of the Picasso statue in the Daley Center in Chicago. For several hours, fun racing was announced by Lou Canellis and Bill Simonson from ESPN Radio. One lucky race winner won tickets to the Target Grand Prix race. Guest cart driver, Adrian Fernandez stated that he began racing slot cars in Mexico. He proved his prowess by thumping Lou and Bill in a special match race. During race weekend, Friday through Sunday, the track was set up at the Chicago Motor Speedway. There, Jerry Kulich, Jesse, Scott and Brett raised over $1200.00 which was donated to the "Make A Wish Foundation." The exciting Championship Race had three different leaders. Jay, who had never raced slot cars before this day, lead after the first two heats. Brett Mason took the lead during the middle part of the race but it was former USRA and Parma Challenge Cup Junior Nationals winner, Don Stewart who captured the lead during the final two heats. Don will be flying to Europe to attend the Belgium Grand Prix! (ED. NOTE: Now that’s what I call a good race prize! Where were prizes like that when we were still young?) |
