Riverside Raceway On The Road

The Riverside team consisted of - left to right - Simon Veasey, Andrew Aynsley, John Brown & Andy Brown Searle. The team came 2nd in the first round of the 1/24th scale G12 Eurosport European Enduro Series at Uden, Holland on 15th April. The race lasted 8 hours and is the shortest of the series, with the 2nd round at Riverside in June (16 hours) and the 3rd round in Belgium in September (24 hours).

	For the second year running Riverside Raceway was asked to provide an entertainment track for the National Sports and Performance Car Show at Telewest Arena, Newcastle upon Tyne. This year the track was a Scalextric RALLYSPRINT stage. Fully landscaped and featuring a single lane run of approximately 150 long, this great track breaks down into 6 sections to make it easily transportable. Timing is via a TrikTrax timer and times not only the full run time but 4 intermediate stages. Lap time using an SCX Seat Cordoba? the record stands at 19.7 seconds. The track is now resident at Riverside and is used on regular basis by racers of all ages. The Rallysprint track will also be seen out and about during the summer months at various venues and may be hired for promotional events. The track and timing trips were designed by Andy Brown-Searle and built/landscaped by Mark Wattam of Max tracks, the builder of our first 6 lane portable track which will now live in Reading at the Pinewood club.

May the 8th & 9th saw the first outing of the Riverside portable Max Track. Our 6 lane 80 foot portable track was exhibited at the National Performance & Sports Car Show, Newcastle Telewest Arena.

During the weekend we ran the Qualifying rounds of the Autotrader Model Car Driver of the Year Trophy, Sponsored by Autotrader Magazine, the finals of which will be held at Riverside on the 6th of June.

The qualifying race format was 3 minutes practice and then 2 x 3 minute races. The top 30 drivers from each of the two days go forward to the final on Riverside's main 'Miami Black' track.

Highlights of the weekend included Guest demonstration races by a REAL RACE DRIVER - Vauxhall sponsored BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP driver John Cleland in the company of BSCRA Premier Driver and Manager of Riverside Paul Harwood, along with newly crowned BSCRA Novice Champion and Riverside driver Kevin Noon.

A Fun race championship was also organised for teams from Autotrader Magazine, OJ Motorsports, Club Italia and Silverstone Racing School, this was won by the staff from Silverstone Circuits Ltd, closely followed by Club Italia, Autotrader & OJ motorsports.

The Riverside Max Track will be out and about at various venues in the coming year. Its next outing being for BMW Mill Garages in Durham. See photos above.
