CRUZIN' 500 MODEL SLOT CAR RULES
MARCH 11-13, 2005

SPIRIT OF THE PROGRAM

There shall be a governing spirit given to the program which will inspire simple fun for the family while encompassing all the realism, detail and excitement of 1:1 racing at a separate level.  We shall strive to provide a clean and suitable atmosphere for all participants and spectators.  This will be best achieved by displaying the proper attitude at all times and treating each other with respect and appreciation.  We are purveyors of miniature model car racing and participate in a miniature arena. This little racing thing sometimes brings out big blasts of ego enlargements which are not tolerated.  There is to be Zero Tolerance for a bad sport!

Given the above, attention to detail is required at the highest levels of participation but simple yet structured programs will be featured for those new to our wonderful hobby/sport.

This program was developed specifically for the Cruzin' 500 Model Slot Car Race using the National USRA Rules as a guideline and may be modified at any time to better define the spirit of the rules.

X.  MISCELLANEOUS PROCEDURES

A.  BLACK FLAG

The Race Director is obliged to black flag any car which is dragging, interfering with other cars, or continuously de-slots due to mechanical problems.  Upon being black-flagged, the driver must bring the car in for repairs immediately.  If the problem is not corrected, the black flag may be enforced again as required.

B.  TRACK CALLS

1.  The power will only be turned off for extremely unfair or dangerous situations.  The following are the only acceptable reasons:

  1. Braid up.

  2. Power failure (one lane or all).

  3. Debris in slot.

  4. Un-marshallable car.

  5. Lap counter or track equipment failure.

  6. Rider.

2.  During a track call, there will be absolutely no work performed on the cars or lane preparation.  Doing so will result in a lap penalty.  A second infraction will result in disqualification.  This restriction applies to drivers & pit helpers.

C.  LAP COUNTER

1.  The lap counter will be considered correct unless it can be proved otherwise.  The counter should be corrected when a car is a rider across the counter in another lane.  If a major error occurs in the counting process that cannot be corrected, the race director may at his option:

  1. Assign responsible stewards to count laps or verify the counter.

  2. Add or subtract mutually agreed upon laps as established by race officials and drivers.

  3. Restart segment.

  4. Restart race from latest possible point.

2.  Laps should not be added or subtracted unless the race director is certain the counter is incorrect.

3.  For a major error in counting, steps taken should preserve as much of the race as possible, while remaining as fair as possible to all racers.

D.  MARSHALLING

Good marshaling sets a good pace and can help the program tremendously.  All drivers are required to help marshal the racing program.  Substitute marshals must be acceptable to race director & drivers.  Failure to fulfill marshaling duties will result in lap penalties and/or disqualification.  Cars may be impounded after each race to insure fair and proper marshaling responsibilities are carried out.  Cars will be returned to move-up drivers to give equal time for race preparation.

E.  LANE CHANGE

1.  Following each lane change, all cars must be returned to the track where they stopped.  It is the driver's responsibility to know where his/her car stopped.  It is suggested a lane change card be used to temporarily mark positions.  Drivers rotating out for round robin race should mark their position with initialed lane sticker.

F.  CODE OF CONDUCT

1.  Everyone involved in the race program as well as spectators are required to act in a fair & responsible manner.  Slot racing involves a lot of excitement in a relatively small area and extra care towards inspiring a Friendly, Family atmosphere tops the list of things to do.

2.  Unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of a driver or turn marshal will subject violators to lap penalties or disqualification at the discretion of the race director.  Verbal abuse & profanity will not be tolerated.  Warnings will issue, continued & serious abuse will result in a request for the offending party to leave the facility.

G.  PROTEST

A competitor may protest another racers equipment by officially informing the race director.

1.  A racer must be aware of the rules when entering an event and withdrawal is not an option in the case of a protest.

2.  Any racer whose motor is protested and then refuses to have his/her motor professionally disassembled shall be disqualified.

3.  Protest procedure.

  1. The protestor may "buy-a-look" by posting a $2 fee.  He/she is then entitled to have a look at the suspected rules violation at the completion of the segment or, if not racing, immediately.

  2. If not satisfied regarding a motor, he/she may formally protest by posting a fee equal to double the current manufacturers suggested retail price of the motor.  The "buy-a-look" fee is transferable.

  3. At this time, the motor must then be non-destructively and indelibly marked for ID.

  4. An impartial race steward must then be charged with the responsibility of observing and verifying the authenticity of the armature or motor parts for post race inspection.  The race will then be restarted.

  5. A thorough disassembly and inspection must be conducted immediately upon completion of racing, in a manner assuring accurate technical verification.  Arm stack length will be measured, and if within specs, the inspection will then proceed to the wire.  This will require torching wire to burn epoxy to enable examination of wire size and amount of turns.

  6. The fees will be held by the race director until resolution of the matter, then promptly given to the appropriate party.  Likewise, any winnings and/or points will be held pending the outcome of the inspection.

  7. "Buy-a-look" proceeds go to the protested party if not applied to a formal protest.

XI.  GENERAL TECHNICAL RULES

All cars/racers are required to comply with these guidelines.  All drivers are responsible for the legality of their equipment.  There is one car per driver per class, and one driver per car per class.  Any rule that is in question or is being interpreted improperly will be clarified by the race director.
