Apex Invitational Cup Report by Mike Low

2nd Annual
Apex Invitational Cup
Sponsored by:
13 Neos and winner takes all!
My thanks to everyone who attended the 2nd Annual Apex Invitational Cup, the fun that everyone had racing made all the effort worthwhile. A big thanks to Eddie Torres for providing Riverside Raceway as the race site because his "good old" 6 lane Bucktrax is still ideal for Neo racing. And thanks to Speed Merchants for integrating the Apex Invitational Cup into their excellent racing program.

There was great anticipation and expectation as the invited racers prepared themselves and their Neo racers for the round robin qualifying races. Jim Williams generously yielded his berth from the Speed Merchants Neo race beforehand so that Milt Surratt could participate along with Scott Dunlap as qualifying non-invitees.

Surviving the qualifying rounds were: Craig Correia, Rick Jocham, Garry Haworth, Gary Morgan, Milt Surratt, and Rick Linn.

In the main event Craig Correia kept up his outstanding run from the qualifying by leading after two heats. As the race progressed Rick Jocham and Gary Morgan began to make their run on the rest of the field. Going into the last heat Jocham and Morgan were tied! With three minutes to decide everything, the crowd was definitely not sitting down for this one. Jocham was finishing on a good lane and Morgan on one of the gutter lanes.

Morgan got a lap lead in the final heat, but with Jocham breathing down his neck, can he prevail? Oh no! Morgan is off the track at the lead on, giving Jocham a lap lead. Time is running out and Jocham is not making any mistakes. Morgan decides to go for it, he wants the Apex Cup. A crash and Morgan is caught up in it but he's back on and still turning quick laps. Down to the wire and Jocham extends his lead, but Morgan is still hopeful. But yet another crash and Morgan drops back another lap. Rick Jocham caps off his outstanding day with another jewel on his racing resume, the Apex Invitational Cup.

Once again I was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Apex Invitational Cup. Inviting some of the very best racers I know and then watching them compete sounds like a good time to me!

Mike Low flanked by Apex Cup finalists Rick Jocham wins everything in sight!

Team Imaginary Racing

Speed Merchants thanks Craig Correia of Team Imaginary Racing for the generous donation of "imaginative" races prizes at Spring Series Race #4. Fine line detail pens went to those who were left to turn marshal the Main while Jim Williams is now really dialed in!

Cruisin' The Golden Era

Once again Bob Scott of Cruisin' donated race prizes in support of Speed Merchants. Eric Roos Jr. and Bobbie Torres each received a Hot Wheels F1 car as thanks for giving their Dads the day off to race!

Try It, You’ll Like It!!
Speed Merchants welcomes Mike Boemker and Greg Williams to Southern California’s Premier Slot Car Racing Organization. Milt Surratt and Eddie Torres also made guest appearances just for the fun of it! Are Championship Points Series points retroactive with your annual membership dues? You bet! No Fooling Around!
Speed Merchants Is Good For Your Health!!

Scientific tests have shown that the blissful rapture of a Speed Merchants event can actually reduce your blood pressure (not to mention lower your cholesterol) just by racing Neos!

Winning Never Gets Old!
